Lloyds Banking Group’s Derek Smith joins FinTech Investor Forum

Lloyds Banking Group head of innovation for the insurance division Derek Smith is the latest guest speaker to be announced for the FinTech Investor Forum in London on November 8.

Smith will speak alongside a number of other distinguished banking CEOs and heads of innovation on the Bank Innovation panel. The event brings together 100 FinTech investment firms and financial institutions with CEOs of successful FinTech startups and scale-ups.

In his current role, Smith is responsible for managing the partnerships within the InsurTech ecosystem, including one with Startup Bootcamp. Other responsibilities include identifying and shaping solutions for e2e insurance companies and helping with innovation to help cater to customer needs. Smith also helps with the testing and learning capabilities of Lloyds’ FinTech partners.

Smith originally joined the company in 2008, where he served as an associate director in the commercial risk management sales department. In this position he led the financial market coverage for the commercial direct segment of the SME Bank. Over the years at Lloyds, Smith has also held roles as director of FX proposition and director of sales.

Currently, he is also serving as an advisor to SVIA for its InsurTech Lab accelerator programme, which is helping companies to digitally transform their products.

Prior to Lloyds, Smith served as the associate director of business development and international treasury sales at the Bank of Scotland. Here he supported the head of international sales with the expand the bank’s treasury sales system across new and existing international markets in North America, Australia and Europe.
